Robocraft Day 5

I upgraded the vehicles guns to a more powerful version which was excellent. I also added two thrusters onto the back of the car to increase speed; the problem with that is it doesn't work well on ice. I think I will remove the thrusters.
I tried out a new cannon weapon in battle. I didn't like how it did just as much damage if not less than the other weapons, and it took forever to load for the next shot. I removed the thrusters from the back of my vehicle and it solved the mobility issues. I saw a glider in battle and think it would be fun to build my own.
I have the basic design of the glider set out… Hopefully it’ll fly and isn’t too heavy.
While building the vehicle, I accidentally pressed F which switched my building tool. I soon figured out that if you already have the block you desire placed somewhere else on your vehicle, you can select it by going over it with your cursor and pressing F.
Steering is very hard on the glider; I must be missing something. It also flipped and I was unable to flip it right side up again. I learnt that the space bar increases height… now I just have to figure out how to get down.

Robocraft Day 4

I decided to restart again and build a smaller machine. Using minimal blocks and staying within the wheels it should maneuver easier and go faster.
The car did excellent in battle… as long as I did turn too sharply. I learnt that by pressing F it flips the car up right. I wonder what Q does? I had a lot of fun playing a battle very similar to capture the flag. I even managed to level up. Because my car was so small and fast it was nearly impossible for other players to hit me. It’s also better to travel in groups and take down the opponents as a team.  I think I’m going to lengthen the car a bit to put more guns on it and maybe help it balance better.
With the bridge lengthened on my car and the extra guns, the vehicle works excellent. I learnt that when you are in your team’s base, your car will repair itself. Over all I really am enjoying the game.

Robocraft Day 3

I thought it may have been interesting to try and make a pyramid. Shortly after a while I realized I had insufficient blocks and had to make do with what I had. The guns are placed on all corners of my vehicle, leaving no blind spots. My driver and wheels are safely tucked inside of the pyramid maximizing defenses. My only concern now is that it might be TOO big and TOO heavy.
Well I was correct; the pyramid is a bit heavy and slow. But the defenses and shooting are impressive. I decided to take it out for a spin in battle. Within moments I realized that this vehicle was terrible at off roads and loved to spin around and confuse me to heck. It’s good to have some sort of indicator of which way your vehicle travels forward to remove confusion. I ended up having to self-destruct by pressing esc because of getting caught on a rock due to its bulkiness.

Robocraft Day 2

This time I designed a vehicle with stronger materials and with the back wheels spaced further than the front. Hopefully with this new wheel placement I will have more control of the vehicle.
I've finished building the main bulk of the vehicle. Unintentionally I learnt that scrolling the mouse re-positions the block you want to place. This trick will save me a lot of time placing temporary blocks in order to get my desired positioning. Now I just need to select my guns and try it out in battle.
It seems that despite my efforts for this new wheel placement, the fishtailing and sliding hasn't decreased. Most of the guns are placed at the rear where I had more room to place; the problem with this is the guns hit the vehicle instead of the others and creates a distraction to me. The nose of the vehicle is also a bit too long making it difficult to travel up some inclines. I think I might as well start over again… I have an interesting idea.

Robocraft Day 1

After emptying out what was in my garage I attempted to build my first vehicle. Some basics I had learnt is that the tab button brings up my menus in which I can select materials and tools to builds with. The tab menu also gives the option of entering your cart into battles or test driving it.
Shortly after my first battle I came to the realization that my car was easily damaged after only 2-3 direct shots. The wheel placement also served to be an issue; especially on ice, for it attended to fishtail every time I tried to turn. The guns were also so close together that they hit each other instead of the enemies. Back to the drawing board.

William B. Travis

William Travis was a man born in 1809. He studied law and became an attorney. He was married and had children and ran a newspaper. His marriage failed and so he headed to Texas to open a lawyer practice. As a Texas land owner, he joined the Texas forces against Mexico. He had 30 men in his charge when he entered the Alamo and soon found himself in command. He sent several requests for reinforcements and bravely fought against the Mexicans.  Unfortunately, he died at the war of the Alamo in 1836.

Davy Crockett

Davy Crockett was a man who was born in 1786. His character was known as a fun loving hunter, fisherman and story teller. His career was political with the title of colonel and elected to the Tennessee state legislature and U.S. Congress. He was also a volunteer scout who achieved the ranks of lieutenant colonel. He was against the removal of the Indian people and challenged Andrew Jackson politically on this issue. He was a natural leader. However, he lost his political standing, was in debt financially and his wife had left him. He hoped that a new life down at the Texas border would be a fresh start to begin a new political career and be a land owner. However, his life ended in the battle at the Alamo in 1836 and he never did receive his payment. Instead he gained notoriety as his life became famous through songs, cartoons, stories and eventually movies. He was often depicted wearing a raccoon hat and wore buckskin clothing but in reality was a political gentleman.

The Battle of the Alamo

In 1699, the land where the Alamo was located today was populated by many cultures; Indians known as Payaya, Sama, Pachaque, and several smaller tribes lived in a nomadic way of life. A French exploration of Texas prompted Spain to come to Texas to build their first permanent mission to expand their territory. The mission location was moved several times. The duty of this mission was to convert the indigenous population to catholic and also train them; farming carpentry, raising livestock, stonework and weaving. It was hoped that these people would be loyal supporters of to Spain. The tribes with the aid of firearms and horses fought the Apaches and the Comanches Indian tribes the mission provided shelter and safety from the invaders.

The mission soon became known as a safe haven for warring troops and the catholic control was disbanded. The mission becomes and outpost for military troops. 100 Military troops with their families take up residence in the mission. They built the first hospital in Texas. The Texan people living at the mission were few in numbers and accepted immigrants from the United States. Together they fought for freedom from Spain. Their number increased from 500 to 30,000 inhabitants. The gathering of these people to be their own nation became a concern for the Mexican president.

One of the missions of the Alamo during Antonio López de Santa Anna’s election as president, was to retrieve a cannon to protect a Mexican town against the Comanche tribe. On October 2, 1835, the colonists refused and taunted them saying “come and take it” and fired on the men. This was the beginning of the Texas Revolution.

On February 23, 1836 the Mexican army arrived to the Alamo to take over the land as Mexican soil. On March 2nd independence of Texas was documented and declared. Unaware, the Alamo and its 200 Texan defenders continued to defend against the Mexican army. On March 6th the Mexican soldiers breached the north wall and attacked the Alamo and brutally killed many of the Texans, leaving them defeated. The battle lasted for only about 90 minuets. The battle of the Alamo is the symbol of their resistance to Mexican oppression. This war was the foundation for the independence of Texas.

Jastrowie Flag

Jastrowie (German: Jastrow) is a town in Poland of over 9,000 inhabitant is where our family originated.

During the WW2 the Jastrow family name was changed to Jaster for documenting purposes. It also had to be changed because our name was Polish and part Jewish; which were two ethnicities being killed off during the genocide.

Fun Fact: Four people managed to escape ashwitz in WW2 by dressing up in guard uniforms and stealing a nazi car; one of those people was Stanislaw Gustaw Jaster. If he did not escape, my family and I would not exist today!

Minecraft Escher Waterfall Project Day 3

HALF WAY MARK END OF THE DAY
Today I used raised blocks on the corners of the river to place red stone touches. I also added a bit more decor onto my map. It
would be nice to figure out how
to turn the rain off.

While placing the Redstone down and the repeaters I’ve learnt that you can only place 15 Redstone at a time. By separating them with repeaters I was able to complete the chain but have noticed a delay between them. The circuit is complete but terribly out of time. Next class I will focus on the timing and then wrap this project up.

Minecraft Escher Waterfall Project Day 2

HALF WAY MARK END OF THE DAY
I've connected together the water and separated it by a pillar to make it appear never ending. I've also added in some lighting to give it a more realistic affect that it is one piece.

Here I've added the train tracks onto my waterfall and improved the lighting with torches. I've also come to realize that the power rails need a switch or Redstone torch to turn the on. Next class I plan to figure out how I will incorporate that. The decoration and focal point has also changed a bit; my object is so large, I was having difficulties lining up the ground rail to the sky.

Minecraft Escher Waterfall Project Day 1

HALF WAY MARK END OF THE DAY
In the first image I have the basic waterfall shape and a few decor in place.

The second image to the left shows the illusion piece - circled in red...(Half of it is on block layer one, the second half is on block layer 4 or 5). I also added much more decor and filled in the water in some places.

My Canadian Flag Proposal

The national colors of Canada were declared by King George V in 1921 to be red and white. Red is symbolic of England and white of France. The 10 white and red stripes represent our 10 countries and the equality between them.

The Inukshuk represents the Aboriginal and First Nations peoples. Canada is a multicultural Country not only of french and English, but also the First Nations. I believe it is only fair considering that the First Nations lived here long before us, that they too deserve recognition on our National Flag.

1964 Proposal (Pearson Pennant)

Since the middle of the 19th century, the maple leaf had been considered the prime symbol of Canada. As a result, a number of initial alternate flag proposals incorporated the leaf. Some designs tried to find a compromise and give a balance to both the British and French heritage of Canada.

Prime Minister Pearson favored this design. The flag was charged with three maple leafs (one representing the English, the other the French, and the third all other communities making up the country). The leafs were placed in the middle of two blue bars that represented the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans on the west/east coasts of the country. It had been nicknamed the "Pearson Pennant" by the opposition leader and former prime minister, John G. Diefenbaker.

The National Flag of Canada Turns 50!!!

Our red and white maple leaf flag was first raised over Parliament Hill 50 years ago on February 15, 1965. This is a significant and special milestone as Canadians prepare for the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017.

The 50th anniversary of our National Flag in 2015 will allow Canadians to reflect on our flag and what it represents — a strong, proud and free country. Our national flag speaks to what we have accomplished together, to the historical moments that have served to define us, and to the promising future of this great country.
